An elegant, tropical eye-catcher for any interior

The Calathea Maui Queen is a special Calathea variety with elongated, dark green leaves and a characteristic, slightly feathered white midrib. The underside of the leaf is deep purple, giving the plant a luxurious and vibrant contrast. Thanks to its elegant appearance and soft leaf pattern, this plant immediately brings a tropical accent to any space. The leaves move with the daily rhythm (nyctinasty), making the plant literally come alive.

✨ Product features

  • Height: approx. 35 cm
  • Pot size: Ø12 cm
  • Leaf shape & pattern: Slender, elongated leaves with a soft, feather-like pattern and purple underside
  • Origin: Tropical rainforests of Brazil (cultivar)
  • Leaf movement: Folds slightly at night, opens during the day (nyctinasty)
  • Pet-safe: Non-toxic to cats and dogs

🌞 Placement

The Calathea Maui Queen thrives best in a spot with bright, indirect light.
Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorch. In too little light, leaf patterns may fade or the plant may grow slower.

💧 Water requirements

  • Keep the soil lightly moist, but avoid soggy feet.
  • Let the top 1–2 cm of soil dry out before watering again.
  • Preferably use filtered or distilled water, as Calathea is sensitive to minerals in tap water.

🌡️ Temperature & humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 18–27°C
  • Keep the plant away from drafts or unheated rooms.
  • The Maui Queen loves high humidity; perfect for bathrooms or kitchens, or use a humidifier.

🌱 Care & extra tips

  • Feeding: monthly during spring and summer with a light, balanced plant food.
  • Use a well-draining but slightly moisture-retaining potting soil, for example mixed with perlite or coir.
  • Dusting occasionally keeps the leaves healthy and beautiful.
